Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Sofía Torres Durán began playing the cello at the age of five. Her studies with Álvaro Serrano, Benjamín, Orna Carmel, and Israel Fausto, in Jerez and Seville, and subsequently with Fernando Arias, in Zaragoza, led her to complete her Bachelor's and Master's degrees under Professor Matthias Bartolomey at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

She has also received guidance from professors such as Heidi Litschauer, Suzanne Stefanovic, María de Macedo, Gary Hoffman, Wen-Sinn Yang, Reinhard Latzko, Troels Svane, Julian Steckel, Clemens Hagen, and Enrico Bronzi, among others.

She has been awarded prizes at the "Jaime Donato Benavente" Young Cello Promises Competition, the Soncello Competition for Young Cellists, and the Gustav Mahler Prize Cello Competition, among others. These accolades have led her to perform in renowned venues and festivals, including the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Mozart Hall at the Zaragoza Auditorium, the MuTh in Vienna, the Great Hall (Grosses Festspielhaus) in Salzburg, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the Styriarte Festival in Graz, and the Herbsttöne Festival in Salzburg.

Throughout her career as a soloist, she has worked with renowned conductors such as Manuel Hernández-Silva, Domingo Hindoyan, Pablo González, Lucía Marín, and Elim Chan, among others. In 2023, she had the opportunity to collaborate with the World Orchestra for Peace, under the direction of Sir Karl Jenkins, on the occasion of the premiere of One World.

Sofía has also performed alongside renowned musicians, including her mentor Cibrán Sierra-Vázquez (Quiroga Quartet), Lluís Claret, Pablo Ferrández, Javier Perianes, and Gregory Ahss.

She is a member of the Trio Egon, founded in 2023 and a finalist in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition in Berlin.

Recently, she made her soloist debut at the prestigious Mozartwoche Festival, performing with the Mozarteum Academic Symphony Orchestra, as well as concerts with the Philharmonie Salzburg, performing Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.

Sofía plays a cello modeled after the "Cannone Paganini" style, crafted in 2018 by the luthier Urs W. Mächler.
