Orchestra “Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala”

The "Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala" orchestra, based in Milan, brings together outstanding musicians from the Teatro alla Scala and the Filarmonica della Scala, two of the most prestigious Italian orchestras. Its mission is to promote the great tradition of virtuosic instrumental music, with a special emphasis on the Italian repertoire.

With the objective of achieving the highest artistic standards, the ensemble comprises top-tier instrumentalists, several of whom pursue prominent solo careers and enjoy wide international renown.

Its vast and versatile repertoire spans major works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, extending also to contemporary music. Its discography includes CD and DVD recordings for the Amadeus, Brilliant, Limen, and Sony labels.

The "Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala" regularly perform at prestigious festivals and concert halls, both in Italy and internationally. Among the prominent venues that have hosted them are the Musikverein in Vienna; the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where they perform on a regular basis; the Teatro Ristori in Verona; the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; the Teatro Verdi in Pisa; and the Riga Opera.

The ensemble has also participated in major European festivals, including the World’s Chamber Orchestras Festival in Moscow; the IMG Tuscan Sun Festival, alongside soprano Danielle de Niese; the Bologna Festival, where they performed Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, later released as a live CD by Sony; the Varna and Sofia festivals in Bulgaria; and the Beethoven Easter Festival.

The "Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala" are also regularly invited to perform at concerts for special occasions. They performed in Cremona at the Violin Museum on the occasion of the Stradivari Memorial Day 2016; at the inauguration of the Renata Tebaldi Museum at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto; and in Cortina d’Ampezzo, where they participated in two different editions of the Grand Epiphany Concert.

In 2011, they were invited by the Italian Embassy in Warsaw to close the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they recorded a concert at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, which was subsequently broadcast by Polish public television.

Over nearly two decades of activity, the "Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala" have brought to international stages an interpretative tradition deeply connected to Milan's Teatro alla Scala, combining instrumental excellence, virtuosity, and a distinct dedication to the great Italian musical heritage.
