Esther Hoppe

Swiss violinist Esther Hoppe enjoys an excellent international reputation as both soloist and pedagogue. 

After studies in Basel, Philadelphia (Curtis Institute of Music), London, and Zurich, Esther won 1st Prize at the prestigious 8th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. Shortly thereafter, she founded the Tecchler Trio, winner of several major prizes, including 1st Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich (2007).

She regularly performs as a soloist with some of Europe’s leading orchestras, such as the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Münchener Kammerorchester, Orchestre Les Siècles Paris, Kammerorchester Basel, and Zürcher Kammerorchester.

Her intense concert activity also extends to chamber music, performing with partners such as Clemens and Veronika Hagen, Nicolas Altstaedt, Vilde Frang, Heinz Holliger, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Alexander Lonquich, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, Lars Anders Tomter, Christian Poltéra, and Ronald Brautigam.

Esther Hoppe is a regular guest at renowned international festivals including Lockenhaus, Ernen, Lucerne, Gstaad, Delft, Prussia Cove, and Styriarte.

She has recorded several critically acclaimed CDs for Virgin Classics, Neos, Concertus Records, and Ars Musici.

Since 2013, she has been Professor of Violin at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

She plays the 1722 Stradivarius “De Ahna” violin.
