José Fangueiro

José Pedro de Sousa Fangueiro is an accordionist from Vila do Conde who has been developing a diverse musical career. He explores not only classical repertoire – ranging from Baroque to contemporary – but also works regularly on musical projects connected to Portuguese traditional culture. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s in Music Education from the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas (ESART), having previously studied at the Porto Music Conservatory.

He has participated in various courses and masterclasses with renowned professors such as Claudio Jacomucci, Miloš Milivojević, Friedrich Lips, Veli Kujala, Owen Murray, Vincent Lhermet, Bjarke Mogensen, Gorka Hermosa, Viatcheslav Semionov, and Franck Angelis.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in venues across Portugal and has also recorded live concerts for Antena 2. As a guest musician with the FoleFest Association, he premiered and recorded Portuguese works for accordion.
He has been awarded several prizes, including 1st Prize and Best Performer Awards at the FoleFest Competition (2018 and 2022), 3rd Prize at the Antena 2 Young Musicians Prize (2022), 2nd Prize at the Alcobaça International Accordion Competition (2016), and 2nd Prize at the 4th Contemporary Interpretation Competition. In chamber music, he won 1st Prize at FoleFest (2019), 1st Prize at the Porto Music Conservatory Internal Competition (2017), 2nd Prize at the Antena 2 Young Musicians Prize (2021), 2nd Prize at the Alcobaça International Accordion Competition (2016), among others.

He is currently a professor at the Academia de Música Fernandes Fão and at Maestro’s Music School in Vila do Conde.
