Raquel Mendes, soprano, completed her vocal studies at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Braga in 2015, under the guidance of Inês Sofia. In 2019, she graduated with top marks in Voice from ESMAE, where she studied with António Salgado.
In 2024, she won the Prémio Jovens Músicos in the Baroque Music category, also receiving 2nd Prize in the Voice category of the same edition. In 2023, she was awarded 1st Prize at the Portuguese Rotary Foundation Singing Competition, as well as 1st Prize at the Almada International Music Competition and 2nd Prize at the José Augusto Alegria Prize in Évora.
She is a founding member of the ensemble "Il Filo d’Oro", dedicated to historically informed performance of 17th-century repertoire.
She also collaborates with ensembles such as La Grande Chapelle, Ludovice Ensemble, Ensemble Bonne Corde, Cupertinos, Bando de Surunyo, Concerto Campestre, Moços do Coro, and Ars Combinatoria. She has appeared at major national and international festivals, including the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Bachfest Stuttgart, Festival da Póvoa de Varzim, Festival Abulensis, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, and Bolzano Festival Bozen, among others.
As a soloist, she has sung roles such as Giannetta in L’Elisir d’amore by G. Donizetti, Despina in Così fan tutte by W. A. Mozart, and La Donna and Lauretta in La Donna di Genio Volubile by Marcos Portugal.
Her concert repertoire as a soloist includes works such as Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and J. S. Bach’s Johannespassion (BWV 245) and Matthäuspassion (BWV 244), among others.
She has performed as a soloist in venues such as the Royal Chapel of Madrid, Zaragoza Auditorium, Madrid National Auditorium, Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Teatro São Luiz, Theatro Circo, Teatro Nacional São João, and Casa da Música.
In the field of chamber music, she regularly gives song recitals with pianists Ana Isabel Santos and Ángel González.
