The Quartz Quintet is an ensemble formed by a string quartet and accordion, created in 2017 under the artistic guidance of accordionist Paulo Jorge Ferreira. Its members are violinists David Seixas and Sara Martins, accordionist Jos\u00e9 Fangueiro, violist Ana Peixoto, and cellist Diogo Martins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ensemble\u2019s main objective is to promote the repertoire composed for this unique formation, while also encouraging and supporting young composers by providing opportunities for the creation of new works and\/or projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Quartz Quintet has been distinguished with several national prizes, including 2nd Prize (Higher Level) and 1st Prize (Higher Level) at the Folefest Competition in 2018 and 2019, respectively, and 2nd Prize (Higher Level) at the Antena 2 Young Musicians Prize in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2019, the group took part in the Chamber Music Residency promoted by the Portuguese Philharmonic Academic Orchestra, and later in the Chamber Music Residencies of the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras (2020\/21), which provided the opportunity to perform several concerts. In 2021, the ensemble held an Artistic Residency at the F\u00e1brica da Criatividade in Castelo Branco, promoted by the Dias da M\u00fasica Electroac\u00fastica Project, where three works dedicated to the group by young composers were premiered and recorded for a CD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Quartz Quintet has also performed at several festivals, including the 42nd edition of the Pa\u00e7os de Brand\u00e3o International Music Festival (2019), the 7th edition of the Marv\u00e3o International Music Festival (2021), and the 2nd edition of the chamber music cycle Caminhos Conjuntos of the Festival \u00c0 Corda (2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They have performed in venues such as Casa da M\u00fasica (Porto), the Machado de Castro National Museum (Coimbra), Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Lapa do Lobo, F\u00e1brica da Criatividade (Castelo Branco), Casa Municipal da Cultura (Pedr\u00f3g\u00e3o Grande), among others.
