Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro was born in Porto and studied at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts. He later joined the Berlin University of the Arts, UdK, where he studied under Professor Michael Wolf and completed an MA and Art Diploma in Double Bass. Throughout his career, he was awarded on several occasions, having obtained an honorable mention at the International Society of Bassists Competition, in Houston, USA, and the 1st Prize at the “Júlio Cardona” International Competition, in Covilhã.
Tiago has been a member of some of the best orchestras in the world, such as the NDR Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Philharmonic Orchestra of Hannover, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, among others, where he has worked with renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Kent Nagano and Christoph Eschenbach.
In the field of chamber music, he is a member of the DSCH – Schostakovich Ensemble and frequently plays, in Portugal and in several European countries, with renowned musicians such as Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Gérard Caussé, Pascal Moraguès, Adrian Brendel, Marcelo Nisinman, Jack Liebeck, Kyril Zlotnikov, Corey Cerovsek, Benjamin Schmid, José van Dam, Silvia Careddu and his brother Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro.
Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro is currently a double bass player at the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and Professor of Double Bass and Chamber Music at the Universidade de Aveiro.
