Internationally recognized as a composer and multi-instrumentalist, he has over five decades of career, making it one of the most prolific and prestigious in the national music scene. Since 1970, he has participated in and programmed various festivals, represented Portugal at prestigious institutional events, and was even at the genesis of the World Music movement, frequently performing at Peter Gabriel's Womad Festival. As a composer, he has created music for film, theater, and ballet.

In 2017, Pedro Caldeira Cabral was honored in recognition of his work in musical creation, research, dissemination, and international promotion of Portuguese musical culture with the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry, awarded by the President of the Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
